General Practice

Undergraduate Education

uTCGP is made up of a team of health care professionals with expertise in general practice and primary care. Our aim is to organise and deliver General Practice and related teaching across the years, particularly specialising in the teaching of generalist skills along with many of the comprehensive and complex skills which are essential attributes of being a good doctor.  We are located in the Mackenzie Building which is a delightful purpose built academic centre adjacent to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee, but much of our teaching is delivered within general practice surgeries throughout the whole of Scotland.  This ensures that our students are able to experience the complexity of health care being delivered in a community setting.

In addition to our teaching we are also developing an increasing portfolio of educational research related to our teaching and in particular to the medical schools admissions processes.  We have an increasingly extensive network of links with other departments of general practice including NHS Education for Scotland and through our staff’s collaboration working with the Royal College of General Practitioners and the General Medical Council.  All these links allow us to have a broad grasp of the challenges facing our future graduates as doctors and so helps inform our curriculum content and delivery.
