Visiting Student Elective
Ninewells Hospital & Medical School accept students from other Universities to carry out their clinical elective placement. We can offer students a maximum of an eight week period, and there is a fee of £200 which is payable on return of an application form which will be sent to you if you are accepted to carry out a clinical elective placement.
Clinical attachments may be available in the following departments / specialities:
- Accident & Emergency
- Diabetes and Endocrinology
- Infectious Diseases
- Medicine - General
- Medicine for the Elderly
- Mental Health
- Neurosciences (Neurology or Neurosurgery)
- Orthopaedic Surgery
- Plastic Surgery
- Renal Medicine
- Surgery - General
Please note all international (non-EU) students are required to apply for a full tier 4 Student Visa in order to undertake an elective placement at Dundee. The CAS for applying for this type of visa will not be issued by the International Office unless all of the required documents are submitted and the IELTS or TOEFL score meets our minimum language requirements for medical students - further information can be found here.
Students applying from out-with the EU must apply for a full Tier 4 Student Visa and comply with the Undergraduate Medicine International English Language Requirements. Please visit our International Student pages to find out more.
We can also provide accommodation for you in the Nurses Residences of the hospital and this accommodation is required to be paid for before attending to carry out your placement.
There is no formal teaching programme. Students will join in all the clinical activities and participate in teaching rounds, case conferences, etc, that are held regularly in the various units /specialities.
