Moneeza earned her BSc in Life Sciences & Biochemistry and her MSc in Biochemistry at the University of Mumbai. She graduated with honours in the Excellence in Science Programme that enables young researchers to investigate topics of interest outside the prescribed curriculum. While in the programme she developed an interest in Epidemiology which she pursued with a Master in Public Health at Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health, graduating in May 2013. A specific interest in Genetic Epidemiology led her to join the Palmer group at Pat Macpherson Centre for Pharmacogenetics and Pharmacogenomics in the division of Cardiovascular and Disease Medicine. The project she is currently working on aims to develop genetic risk assessment and diagnostic tools for prediction of adverse drug reactions to statins and ACE inhibitors. The ultimate goal is to optimize the management of CVD with currently used medicine through a more personalized approach that factors in genetic risk of developing adverse outcomes.
