We have a diverse team which includes medical, nursing, pharmacy, optometry teaching staff as well as administrative and technical support. Visiting clinicians from a variety of disciplines visit the centre to develop and deliver educational activities. The Centre has close working relationships with NHS Tayside, and other departments within the University, including the Centre for Medical Education, the Cuschieri Skills Centre, the Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, and the School of Computing.
Our simulated patients and clinical patients are integral part of our community. They have been providing an invaluable services as volunteer members of the clinical skills team since 1997. Students come into contact with our simulated and clinical patients from the first semester of their studies and they are very much valued by our Centre and the wider University for their contribution.
The Centre is keen to make most of our facilities and while it is busy and full on most day’s public engagement is high on our agenda. This has resulted in close working with the local enhanced provision school. Visits to the centre by children from the school prepare them for admission to hospital and show senior students how the hospital ward and staff function in preparation for the “world at work”. This has been such a success that plans are in place to expand this to the wider educational community.
