The Centre is actively involved in innovations in medical education and has been responsible for the introduction of a number of new approaches to teaching, assessment and curriculum planning. The Centre has unique experience in the development of attractive and useful distance learning materials, producing programmes in which over 15,000 healthcare professionals have enrolled.

Our core activities are:

  • University accredited courses: Face-to-face and online distance learning courses, designed to meet the needs of health professionals in education and training: Practitioner (Certificate); Leader (Diploma); Researcher (Masters). Student learning includes working with online materials, interaction with peer learners, reflection on practice, tutor contact and personal study. The modules cover a broad range of Medical Education topics. Our online learning has continuous enrolment with flexible assignment submission enabling you to work at your own pace. These courses are supported by webinars and designed to support you and encourage peer-peer and peer-tutor interaction.
  • Face-to-face student teaching: Our face to face student teaching is delivered in Dundee and follows the academic year. This allows students to enjoy what the Times Higher Education Survey 2012 recognised as “Dundee best in Scotland in Student Experience”. The Sunday Times University Guide describes Dundee as “one of the prize catches in higher education”. The University’s award winning international student society provides students with a warm and friendly welcome to the city, making their time in the UK “a wonderful experience”.
  • Short courses: From beginner to advanced level on topics including: Teaching and Learning; Assessment; Curriculum Development; Clinical Teaching; Educational Leadership; Educational Research. We offer two types of short courses – our annual ‘Discovery’ week-long course run each April, and 1-5 day courses prepared specifically to address an institution’s needs. These are delivered either in the UK or overseas.
  • Research: The Centre is a thriving hub for healthcare education research. We have education research links locally, nationally and internationally, creating a worldwide community of Dundee scholars across undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing education. Key areas of expertise include: Scholarship of teaching, learning and assessment;  Professionalism. We have expertise in a wide range of quantitative and qualitative methodologies used in education research. We supervise research students at Masters and PhD level. If you want to find out more about one of our activities please contact us.
